Miles Between Cities

Privacy Policy

By the Miles Between Cities Editorial Team  ·  Last updated: October 2026

This privacy policy explains what information Miles Between Cities collects when you use this website, how it is used, and the choices available to you. The short version is that this is a reference website: you can read every page without creating an account, signing in, or giving us your name, and the only information you ever send us directly is whatever you choose to include in a message through the contact form.

When you send a contact message, the name, email address and message you type are delivered to us so that we can read and reply to your enquiry — for example, a correction to a distance figure. We use those details only to handle that enquiry, we do not add contact-form addresses to any marketing list, and we do not sell personal information to anyone. Messages and their contents are retained only for as long as needed to deal with the matter raised and to keep a reasonable record of corrections to published data.

Like most websites, this site uses analytics tooling to understand which pages are read, how readers arrive, and whether pages are working properly. That tooling may set cookies and record information such as your approximate location, device and browser type, and the pages you visit, in aggregated and pseudonymous form. We use those reports to decide which city pairs and guides to improve; we do not attempt to identify individual readers from analytics data, and we do not combine it with contact-form messages.

This site is supported by advertising. Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on a visitor's prior visits to this website or other websites. Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to users based on their visit to this site and/or other sites on the internet. You may opt out of personalised advertising by visiting Google's Ads Settings, and you can opt out of many third-party vendors' uses of cookies for personalised advertising through the Network Advertising Initiative's opt-out page and your browser's cookie controls. Advertising cookies do not give advertisers your name, email address or any contact-form content.

Most browsers let you view, delete and block cookies through their settings, and you can use this site with cookies blocked — the distance tables and guides work regardless — though analytics and advertising may then behave differently. This site may contain links to external sources, such as the U.S. Census Bureau and OpenStreetMap, whose privacy practices are their own; we are not responsible for the content or policies of external sites. We may update this policy as the site's tooling changes, and the last-updated date at the top of this page will change when we do. Questions about this policy can be sent through the contact page.

We keep the personal information footprint of this site deliberately small, and that choice shapes the rest of this policy. There are no accounts to create, no profiles to complete, no comments to post and no purchases to make, so there is no password database, no payment information and no order history for us to hold or to lose. Analytics records are viewed in aggregate, advertising is handled by the vendors described above under their own policies, and contact messages are read by the editorial team that maintains the data. If a law, a court order or a safety obligation ever required us to disclose information we hold, the information in existence to disclose would be limited to those messages and ordinary server records. Readers under the age of thirteen should use this site with a parent or guardian, as with any website that carries advertising.
